One of our long-time clients approached us this year to engage our services to update the design of their company website, as well as manage their social media presence in cooperation with the staff of each of their five assisted living centers in Central Ohio.
Abbington Assisted Living sought to strike a delicate balance in updating the website to modern graphic design styles, while ensuring it still appealed to their target market of middle-aged professionals shopping for assisted living housing for their parents.
As we worked together to update the website, we met with the Abbington team to learn about challenges people were having navigating the existing website. That website featured dropdown menus that had a second tier of dropdowns, which were difficult to manage on the desktop computer and even more challenging on a mobile device such as a smartphone. We eliminated these double-dropdown menus and replaced them with an individual hub of pages for each assisted living location, with a custom navigation menu for that location.
In the course of our conversation, we noted that the corporate logo looked as if it had been skewed over time, and was stretched horizontally. We engaged our logo designer to restore a more symmetrical and balanced look to the logo, without moving too far from the original, familiar logo that is used on company signs, buildings and business cards.
We improved the homepage, and added a light blue background to soften the appearance.
Now Abbington has a fresh new look to attract new residents, and it all works together with the organization’s social media presence, including a corporate Facebook Page and individual pages for each assisted living facility. We meet monthly to compare notes and learn more about what images and messages to feature.
